Ambassadors Leading the Movement: Chia Ming Huang
Ambassadors help meet the increased demand for healthy buildings and ESG strategies by providing the real estate industry with an on-ramp to implement Fitwel’s research-backed, dynamic strategies, designed to positively impact human health and evolve with the changing times.
Meet Chia Ming Huang — Founder of Fitwel Champion, Green Matrix Consulting Company. Chia became a Fitwel Ambassador in 2019 and introduced Fitwel to the Taiwan market. Fitwel’s strategies and standards align with Green Matrix’s mission to “fight for the next generation” and strive to transform the construction market toward health and wellbeing.
Green Matrix Consulting became a Fitwel Champion in July 2022 and made a large impact on the Taiwan real estate market by introducing Fitwel’s healthy building movement. Green Matrix Consulting supported project owner, Herzu Development Company, on the Herjing Gulf Villa multifamily building in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The property is the first to achieve a 3-star rating under Fitwel’s v2.1 Multifamily Residential scorecard in Taiwan and the highest Fitwel Design Certification project in Asia!
Green Matrix chose the Fitwel Standard because it is grounded in rigorous scientific analysis addressing key public health impacts. The team took the opportunity to implement Fitwel strategies and verify the impact of the concepts on people’s health and wellbeing.
Indoor air quality (IAQ) measures and biophilia design are two key concepts implemented in the property. To optimize the IAQ, passive design strategies were developed based on the team’s studies of the micro-climate. To reduce the particle matter issues, Green Matrix applied anti-haze screen to all operable windows and a high-efficiency filter for all ventilation systems. Thus, the occupants can have either natural and/or mechanical ventilation depending on the outdoor air condition. Biophilia design and natural daylight are powerful tools to enhance occupants’ mental and physical wellbeing. The team developed a park using native plants and a small pond that houses local biodiversity — giving occupants plenty of opportunities to enjoy natural views and access to daylight.
Fitwel’s cost-effective certification utilizes design strategies and policies to optimize the health and wellbeing of occupants. This concept contributes to equitable living and building health for all.
