Learn more about her journey and the impact of Fitwel on both her career and BXP's ESG strategy.

Why did you decide to become a Fitwel Ambassador?
KG:
I first learned about the Fitwel Ambassador program when the BXP team decided to pursue healthy building certifications as it became evident how important indoor environments are to occupant health, and that this would be in high demand from our clients. The Ambassador program helped me gain insight into healthy building strategies and how to implement them throughout our portfolio.

How has being a Fitwel Ambassador impacted your life and career?
KG:
It has opened the door to understanding healthy building strategies in the projects I work on professionally and how they can benefit me personally as a building occupant. At BXP, we have three Fitwel Design Certifications, including the first Fitwel Design-certified project in the world. Without the knowledge I have gained from the Ambassador program, the projects may not have incorporated healthy building strategies or impacted occupant health in such a positive way.

How do you use Fitwel to advance your company's or client's ESG strategy?
KG:
Fitwel supports and enhances BXP's efforts related to the ‘Social’ pillar in ESG by providing healthier environments for our stakeholders. We focus on six areas to improve occupant health: indoor air quality, thermal comfort, healthy materials, pandemic-ready provisions, and green cleaning. These focus areas provide social benefits including optimal cognitive performance and productivity, infectious disease transmission mitigation, clean air supply and removal of contaminants from the indoor environment, and minimizing the impact of cleaning products on people and the environment.

As developers and managers of buildings and occupiers of those buildings, BXP is keenly aware of the influence of buildings on people’s health. The aim has been to ground healthy building claims in science by quantifying the benefits of superior air quality, water purity and access, building material composition, indoor environments, and wellness amenities. That’s why our project teams have been so motivated to pursue Fitwel Certification over the years, and we will continue to do so.
