Healthy Building Profile: 200 Clarendon Street - Boston, MA

Boston Properties (BXP): 200 Clarendon Street, Boston

Fitwel Champion, Boston Properties (BXP) chose to pursue Fitwel’s Multi-Tenant Base Building v2.1 Certification at 200 Clarendon Street to highlight how wellness amenities can be implemented at high-rise office buildings. As the tallest building in New England, 200 Clarendon Street is a great example of how tall buildings can use their existing infrastructure to promote occupant health and well-being.

BXP is particularly proud of Fitwel’s active design strategies implemented in the main building stairwell. The team installed creative signage that invites occupants to climb the stairwell to the heights of other well-known landmarks both in Boston and across the globe. The building holds stair climbing competitions to support charities and the creative signage is used as motivation during these events.

200 Clarendon Street also incorporates the tallest gym in New England on the 61st floor of the tower, accessible to base building regular occupants. This is an example of how back-of-the-house, under-utilized space can be transformed into a wellness amenity.

Through recertification, 200 Clarendon Street was able to increase their Fitwel rating to 2 stars.

BXP plans to pursue Fitwel Certification at most of the urban properties in their portfolio and assess Fitwel Certification during the design stages of new construction projects.
