Located in Hengqin, Zhuhai, China, iCity consists of an exhibition hall, four high-rise multi-tenant office buildings, a commercial podium building, and a corporate office building, creating a cultural and creative hub of high-tech and natural elements.

The pandemic has created an emphasis for firms to prioritize occupant well-being and healthy spaces for employees. The iCity team, with the support of Fitwel Ambassadors from Shenzhen LVDA Technology Co., LTD, pursued Fitwel Certification as the way to achieve their healthy building goals.

Since certification in February 2022, iCity has received positive feedback on the strategies implemented onsite including fruit and vegetable gardens, a first-floor courtyard, emergency preparedness plans, newly installed incentive stair signage, hand washing signage, and natural lighting. In order to achieve the best lighting, a semi-enclosed layout is adopted to facilitate sun shading and ventilation. Similarly, the Fitwel Ambassador team with LVDA developed a relevant wellness program to optimize the user experience and added a mother and baby-friendly lactation room.

Integrated design is a design solution for a specific multi-factor influenced building system used to achieve optimal cost performance and technical and economic balance. To meet the requirements of green building, site environment, healthy building, and low-carbon communities the project has been designed in a holistic way in order to avoid duplication and waste in design and cost.

For the iCity management team, achieving Fitwel Certification is the first milestone in striving to support employee health. Optimizing the workplace environment can make employees feel happier and gain a sense of belonging. The facility has created long-term shared value with stakeholders and achieved influence in the social, economic, and environmental fields by continuing to deepen sustainable development.
