What Fitwel strategies were most important to you to achieve your healthy building goals?
SB: We focused on several strategies, including ensuring there was ample natural light and greenery, as well as integrated health-promoting design features, sustainable building materials, physical activity promotions, and access to outdoor nature.

How does Fitwel align with the mission or values of your company?
SB: Adera’s 2025 Vision highlights our dedication to sustainability through operational excellence, technology, and innovation. Our use of mass timber demonstrates our commitment to sustainable building materials, and the implementation of the Energy Step Code in 2018 has provided a path to enhanced energy efficiency. We turned to Fitwel to address the health and well-being of our building occupants, which wasn’t covered by other sustainability efforts. "Building Health at Adera" reflects our commitment to creating and maintaining spaces that support the physical, mental, and social well-being of our occupants.

What Fitwel strategies were most important to you in achieving your healthy building goals?
SB: Our approach was all about enhancing the everyday experience for our residents. We emphasized natural light and green spaces, making sure our buildings felt connected to nature. Using sustainable materials and promoting physical activity were also key. It’s not just about the structures themselves but creating an environment where people can truly thrive.

What does Building Health mean to you, and how does Fitwel align with the mission or values of your company?
SB: For us, Building Health is about nurturing well-being on all fronts—physical, mental, and social. Our 2025 Vision highlights sustainability through innovative practices and responsible use of resources like mass timber. The Energy Step Code has guided us toward greater energy efficiency since 2018. Fitwel perfectly aligns with our mission by focusing on the health aspect, something we felt was crucial but not always addressed in other sustainability frameworks.
